Outdoor Flood Prevention Tips

1.     Maintain proper drainage: routinely clean and maintain gutters, downspouts.

2.     Improve grading: storm water should always flow away from building. This may mean you need to improve runoff around your home

3.     Reduce impervious surfaces: consider rain gardens, yards, and vegetated swales

4.     Install rain barrel: can be used for non-potable water uses, such as watering lawn or washing car

5.     Elevate utilities: at least 1 foot above ground level

6.     Anchor outdoor fuel tanks: attach to large concrete slab heavy enough to resist force of flowing water or install ground anchors.
