Spring Time Pet Safety Tips

Spring is here and we can’t express how excited we are for the season but with that comes some safety concerns for pets. Animals also enjoy the warmer weather as they get to go outside more often and for longer playtime. That said, with a little preparation you can avoid unwanted vet visits for emergencies this season. Here are some of our tips:

  1. Watch out for unfamiliar plants: Lillies and other plants can be toxic for cats and others, such as oleander are toxic to all household pets. If your pet does get ahold of these then they will likely exhibit vomiting and diarrhea. If this happens get them to the vet asap.

  2. Have a flea and tick prevention program: The warmer weather brings out fleas and ticks as well as other unwanted pests. You want to make sure you check your pet after returning from the outdoors. Make sure that they are up to date on their heartworm medications and lime disease shots. If you do find a tick make sure to remove it immediately.

  3. Spring clean safely: This is a time of year when most people do a deep clean on their homes. Be sure to keep harmful chemicals away from animals. Even the all-natural products can harm your pets.

  4. Bee on the lookout & other allergies: Many animals are allergic to bee stings and other things. Just like humans, pets can have seasonal allergies too. If you see constant chewing, sneezing, or licking this could be a sign of allergies. Again, if they show any signs like this, make sure to get them to their ver immediately.

  5. Update tags and microchips: This is a good idea since the animals will be spending more time outdoors and it can be more likely that they can get lost. Give yourself the piece of mind that you deserve by updating their tags and microchips.

We hope that you and your pets start to enjoy the great outdoors a little more now that the season is changing as safely as possible. We hope that these tips helped you learn something new that can help keep your cherished pets out of harm’s way.
