Essential Jet Ski Safety
Summers “down the shore” are right around the corner. It’s almost time to break out the boats and PWCs. Jet skis can be fun but also very dangerous so it’s important to have good knowledge of proper safety protocols when driving them. If you’re the owner of a jet ski we highly recommend taking a boater safety course. However, if you’re out and you get the chance to ride someone else’s you may not have taken that course, so here are some tips to stay safe when driving or riding.
Always wear a life jacket and make sure that it fits properly. It should fit snuggly around the mid-section and support your weight
Never start the PWC without attaching the stop chord if you fall off!
Keep hands and feet away from the pump intake
Hold on tightly to the driver if you’re the passenger and if you’re driving, make sure that the passenger is always ready to go before taking off
No one young enough not to obtain a driver’s license should ever drive a jet ski
Alcohol and jet skis DO NOT mix so never drink and then drive a jet ski while impaired under the influence of alcohol!
We hope this helps you have a better understanding of jet ski safety and you have a great summer out there on the Atlantic!
