Increasing Home Value with Smart Home Devices

We remember an old sci-fi channel commercial from way back in the early 90’s that began to count up from the current year, quite epically might I add, until it got into the 2000’s. As we sat there in awe of what it would be like in the future, we pondered. Would we have flying cars? Would we have watches that we talked into like Star Trek? It was all so exciting to think about. Our imaginations ran wild back then, but it now feels like we’re actually living in that sci-fi “future” in the present. Think about it… everything on the Jetsons has pretty much come to fruition. Technology has skyrocketed over the past decade so quickly that now we actually do have self-driving cars, cleaning robots and smart devices in the home that complete mundane tasks for us.

Smart devices are a great way to elevate your home and increase its value, depending on the devices you install. According to the Forbes Real Estate Council, “Smart home tech is one of the most desirable qualities in a home on the market.” Here is our list of our top smart devices that will add value to and elevate your home.

  1. Smart Thermostat: these will allow you to set a daily temperature schedule. You can also adjust the temperature from wherever you are. If the system detects that your phone is out of the homes range, it will adjust the temperature accordingly to save money and increase sustainability efforts.

  2. Smart Doorbell/Home Security System: these can lock and unlock your home without a key. You will also have video camera on your door through motion detection that sends you real-time alerts when someone approaches. You can even speak to them through the app. This makes your home safer and you’re much less likely to be a victim of break ins. Cameras can also be placed around the home and viewed from your phone. The system will notify the authorities automatically if there is a break in.

  3. Smart Detectors: smart detectors, such as smoke alarms and CO2 detection systems, can do the same as their older versions with a loud alarm when smoke or CO2 is detected. On top of this, they can send alerts to your phone when you’re away if anything goes wrong. Like the smart home security systems with the police, if there is a fire, the system will alert the fire department as well in an effort to save your home from total loss.

  4. Smart Outdoor Irrigation: this reduces water waste immensely! The systems use soil moisture data to determine when to water. It will then adjust the daily watering schedule.

  5. Smart Kitchen Appliances: there are now smart refrigerators, smart ovens, smart blenders. There are even smart toasters. You name it and there’s now a smart version of it.

These smart devices will elevate your home and increase its value. Smart tech is usually factored into the homes appraisal. Many buyers are interested in purchasing a home that already has smart technology installed. This will save them time and money down the road. You can attract the kind of buyers that you’re looking for to purchase your home.
